There is strong demand for rental accommodation in Sydney – prices can be high and waiting lists can be long. We recommend that you begin considering accommodation options as early as possible.
Consider staying within walking distance of our campus for reduced travel costs and time. Ideally-located suburbs include Haymarket, Ultimo, Pyrmont, Chippendale, Surry Hills, Darlinghurst and the CBD. However, cheaper accommodation can be found further from the city centre. Our campus is less than ten minutes’ walk to Town Hall Station, which receives trains from around Sydney.
Sydney has various accommodation types, including those outlined below.
Share housing
A popular low-cost option in Australia. You will have your own room in a house/apartment. Be aware that some sharehouses are unfurnished and/or charge utility fees in addition to rent. You will also need to pay a bond (normally equivalent to 4 weeks’ rent). As quality among sharehouses can vary, we always recommend viewing the sharehouse before signing a sharehouse agreement. Popular sharehouse websites include Flatmate Finders and Flatmates.
Managed Student Accommodation
A good option for being near other students while living independently. You will have your own room in a purpose-built student accommodation. This is not the cheapest option, but it tends to include higher quality facilities than many sharehouses. Popular managed student accommodation websites include Iglu, Scape and ume.
Homestays
SITCM has entered a partnership with the Australian Homestay Network to give our students another accommodation option. A homestay offers a great cultural immersion opportunity and is relatively affordable (click here for prices), though it may not offer the same level of independence as some options.
